Senegal’s new ambassador presents his credentials to the president


The new Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal HE Abdoul Wahab Haidara presented his letter of credence to HE President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The ceremony took place this afternoon at the President‘s office.

After meeting the new Ambassador, the President welcomed the Ambassador to the Maldives and congratulated him on taking office.

Speaking at the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his joy in accepting the mandate and conveyed greetings from Senegalese President Macky Sall to President Solih. The Ambassador congratulated the Maldives for assuming the presidency of the 76th United Nations General Assembly.

President Solih stressed that the main interest of the Maldives lies in improving economic and trade ties and attracting more investment to the country. The president and the ambassador discussed areas of mutual interest, including the management of Covid-19, climate change, sports, tourism and culture. The ambassador expressed that Senegal could learn lessons from the expertise of the Maldives in promoting tourism and culture.

They also explored the possibilities of increasing cooperation between the Maldives and Senegal in the areas of human rights and the fight against terrorism.
