Mane not world class? Bayern Munich legend Rummenigge’s claims have the Senegal striker’s fans furious

Fans were appalled by the former Bundesliga giants’ CEO’s comments regarding the ex-Liverpool star’s quality

Fans online have expressed dismay at former Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s comments that Senegal striker Sadio Mane is not world-class.

Rummenigge criticized Bayern’s summer signings, saying the signing of Mane and Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt was inconsequential as the two are “not at the top of their game”.

“With all due respect to Sadio Mane and Matthijs de Ligt – both of them are not world class players for me. Of course Mane will do good in the Bundesliga and score his goals, but at 30, I don’t see him at the absolute highest level,” Rummenigge wrote in his column for Sportbuzzer, as GOAL reports.

However, a section of the fans took strong exception to the comments, particularly in regards to Mane, who was among Liverpool’s top performers during his six years on Merseyside.

“I immediately read that Mane was not world class, I already knew this guy was talking about hate,” @Fopssy said in reaction to the article on OBJECTIVE.

He added: A world class player like Mane was signed for 32 million euros and it was this same talker who signed Lucas Hernandez for 88 million euros and Lucas didn’t even justify half of his price. Rummenigge should just move on.

“Mane is not world class? Maybe I don’t know what world class means or looks like anymore. As for his age, he still has three years to give at the top of his game, ”replied @Kingsolo.

He continues: “It is true that [Jurgen] Klopp let him go as he already had his replacement in a younger one [Luis] Diaz and [Darwin] Nunez. It was a smart move by Klopp and Liverpool, but that doesn’t mean Mane won’t be vital for any club that bought him.

Some fans feel the Bayern legend judged the Senegalese too harshly considering what he achieved in the game.

“I wonder what is the definition of some world-class people, a player who’s been in the top five or top six for the last three years and you say he’s not world class?” asked @Jacob.

“Mane led Senegal to CAN success at [Mohamed] at Salah’s expense. And he got them to the 2022 World Cup,” Zeke Houston said.

“If the best player in Africa is not world class, then who is? posed Fulani Herdsman, with @Michaelso agreeing with him. He said: “He even won African Footballer of the Year for 2 consecutive years.”

“Mane falls more than into the category of the Zenith word ‘world class’, his stats, performance, consistency and ratings (both team and individual nominations and earnings) over the past four years indicate that he is indeed world class,” said Muri Omoniyi.

Some wondered if it was indeed a former footballer who spoke like this.

“It must be Michael Rummenigge who said that, not Karl-Heinz Rummenigge,” observed Marc Leo.

“As someone who saw Mane don the Liverpool shirt for years, especially his first four years, man, he was devastating,” @Rahul said.

However, some seemed to agree with Rummenigge.

“Anyone who prepares for [Robert] Lewandowski’s departure should have been in search of a replacement. Mane do they offer? Aren’t they both from the same era? It’s not about inspiration, ultimately,” @jude said.

Mane joined Bayern for €32m after six years at Liverpool who scored 120 goals in 269 appearances as well as Premier League, Champions League, FA and League Cups.
