Discussions on strengthening cooperation with Senegal, on human rights, the fight against terrorism


Discussions were held on expanding cooperation between the Maldives and Senegal in the areas of human rights and the fight against terrorism.

The discussions took place following a ceremony held at the President’s office where the new Senegalese Ambassador Abdoul Wahab Haidara presented his credentials to Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday morning.

Welcoming the Ambassador to the Maldives, President Solih congratulated him on the start of his mandate.

Expressing his joy in accepting his mandate as Senegalese Ambassador to the Maldives, Haidara conveyed the best wishes of Senegalese President Macky Sall to his counterpart in the Maldives.

In addition, the new Ambassador of Senegal congratulated the Maldives for having assumed the presidency of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The Maldivian president noted that the government‘s main interest lies in strengthening economic and trade ties while attracting more investment to the country.

The couple also engaged in discussions on topics of mutual interest such as the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, sports, tourism and culture.

Ambassador Haidara revealed that Senegal has the opportunity to learn from the expertise of the Maldives in promoting culture and tourism.
